Public Areas Siren System
As part of the University of West Florida's ArgoAlert emergency notification system, four outdoor warning siren poles have been erected on the main campus.
During an event which immediately threatens the health and safety of University community members who are outdoors, the sirens will be activated. A very loud tone will emanate from the sirens. This tone is meant to warn individuals who are outside of campus buildings to immediately seek shelter in the nearest building. Following the alert tone, verbal instructions will be broadcast over the sirens public address system. The siren alert tone is not designed to be heard by those already inside campus facilities. Individuals already inside campus buildings should check with other modes of ArgoAlert notification. In order to test the functionality of the system and to ensure the campus community is aware of the sirens; the sirens have been programmed to play Westminster Chimes everyday at noon.
