Mission

The mission of the University of West Florida Police Department, is to  S.E.R.V.E. our campus community, by protecting students, faculty, staff, and visitors through proactive, professional, and prevention-focused policing. 

We are committed to fostering a safe and supportive educational environment by anticipating risks, preventing crime, and responding with integrity, fairness, and accountability. Our role extends beyond enforcement. We are partners in safety, guardians of trust, and servants of the community we protect. 

What S.E.R.V.E. Means in Our Mission

S.E.R.V.E. is the foundation of how we operate and how we are expected to perform our duties:

S - Student Centered. We place the safety, well-being, and success of students, faculty, and staff at the center of every decision.

E - Engaged through communication collaboration and awareness. We work proactively to identify concerns and prevent issues before they escalate.

R - Responsible. We are accountable professionals who take ownership of our actions, decisions, and responsibilities. We perform our duties thoroughly, ethically, and consistently.

V - Vigilant. We remain alert, prepared, and forward-thinking. By analyzing trends, forecasting potential risks, and maintaining readiness, we focus on prevention while remaining capable of responding  decisively when needed.

E - Excellence. We hold ourselves to the highest standards of professionalism, training, and conduct. Excellence is expected in how we serve the community, how we work as a team, and how we represent this department.

Our Commitment

Guided by S.E.R.V.E., this department will operate with unity, discipline and purpose. Every member, leadership, supervisors, and officers, is expected to uphold this mission in daily operations, decision-making, and interactions with the campus community.

Through service-driven policing and teamwork, we will remain a department that our community can depend on, today and in the future.

Value Statement

We, of the University Police Department, recognize our contribution to the quality of life and safe environment in our community through the provision of professional law enforcement services. We will meet the challenge of providing these services by basing our thoughts and actions on the following shared values.

Service to our Community:
We place strong emphasis on campus-community oriented policing which integrates the idea of crime prevention, problem solving, and community involvement into a comprehensive program.

Integrity:
We value candor, honesty and ethical behavior in members of our department. We are committed to uphold our positions of trust by maintaining the highest ethical standards as set forth in the Law Enforcement Code of Ethics.

Responsibility and Accountability:
We value the need for effective use of our resources and to provide a spirit of openness in communications with our community. We will be responsible for our actions, willing to admit our mistakes, and ensure that our behavior earns the support and trust of all segments of the public.

Professionalism:
We value professionalism by having a clear sense of commitment, perspective and direction. Professionalism is developed by creating an environment that encourages teamwork, innovation, and constant evaluation of ourselves. A professional attitude is dedicated to quality, timeliness and excellent of our service to the community.

Pride and Satisfaction in our Profession:
We believe our work to be a source of enjoyment and satisfaction. We are proud of our accomplishments as an integral part of the University Community. We enjoy what we have chosen to do - service the law enforcement profession with the University Police Department.
