Repository of useful links and information for faculty.

BOG Regulation 8.003 requires that "The faculty or instructor must review all required course materials for each course they teach each semester." UWF uses Classmate as the mechanism for faculty to attest that their materials are appropriate for the course. Please note that all instructors attached to a course are required to make an attestation.

Attestation should be completed by the end of a term's drop/add week.

New for Fall 2025 is the option to include a note with the attestation. For example, if a specific chapter of a textbook is being excluded a note could be added to detail that exclusion.

The Confluence page Course Materials Attestation in Classmate contains additional information and an overview of this new process. As of this email, attestation is now available in Classmate.

BOG Regulation 8.003 excerpts related to attestation

8.003.1.a states "The faculty or instructor must review all required course materials for each course they teach each semester. If the university is using an adjunct or temporary instructor for a course and has selected the materials for the course, the individual responsible for selecting the materials for that course must complete the attestation."

8.003.2 states "All faculty or instructors must attest that they will review all required materials for each course they teach each semester before the materials are presented or assigned to the students. Materials include but are not limited to textbooks, test and assignment questions, assigned and supplemental readings, and any other instructional material the faculty member plans to assign to students to read and review in the course. Faculty or instructors must attest that the materials are appropriate for the course and submit it in accordance with university policy. Universities must provide updates to the Chancellor upon request on compliance with this section."

UWF's Tuition Scholarship Program for Dependents is available to dependents of full-time faculty who have served UWF for at least one continuous year prior to submitting a scholarship request. The scholarship can be used for fall and spring semesters, as long as an application is submitted for each semester.

For each dependent selected, the University will pay the cost of tuition for three undergraduate or graduate credit hours (excluding fees) to be used in a fall or spring semester. This scholarship can be used in addition to the Employee Tuition Waiver. Market rate programs and courses, self-supporting programs and courses, and continuing education programs and courses are not eligible for the tuition scholarship. For students already offered a financial aid package, the receipt of this scholarship may result in a reduction or update to an existing aid package.

For purposes of this program, a "dependent" is a spouse, any natural, adopted or stepchild of the faculty member, or any other child for whom the faculty member is a legal guardian, under the age of 25, as of the first day of classes for the semester. Also considered a dependent for the purposes of this program are children over age 25 who are natural, adopted or stepchildren, or any other child for whom the faculty member is a legal guardian, as long as the faculty member's federal tax return indicates the child is a dependent, or as long as the faculty member pays 50% of the child's support, as defined by the Internal Revenue Code. Special circumstances for cases not fitting the above definition should be discussed with Jamie Sprague, Associate Vice President of Human Resources, jsprague@uwf.edu, 850.474.2156. Documentation to verify dependent status may be required.

A dependent must be admitted to UWF in a degree seeking program and be taking a minimum of 12 hours per semester at UWF (undergraduate) or 6 hours per semester at UWF (graduate); non-degree seeking students are not eligible for this scholarship. Continuation of this scholarship is contingent upon remaining in good academic standing and maintaining a minimum 2.0 cumulative institutional GPA for undergraduate students or 3.0 cumulative institutional GPA for graduate students. A dependent loses eligibility if not continuously enrolled or if any Student Code of Conduct violations occur.

The dependent tuition scholarship will typically be awarded to all applicants. Should requests for funds exceed funds allocated in a given semester, dependent tuition scholarship awards will be made in the order in which electronic request forms are received. Any unfunded requests will be awarded first in the following fall / spring semester if an application for that semester is submitted.

Special Notice: Taxability
In general, IRS regulations consider anything of value provided to an employee by an employer to be a form of compensation. All compensation must be reported as taxable wages and is subject to income tax withholding, unless specifically excluded by the Internal Revenue Code (IRC).

  • Spouse and dependent graduate level scholarships are taxable from the first dollar.
  • Undergrad is not taxed at this time.
  • Once DROP/ADD is closed, the taxes, where applicable, are applied.

Payroll receives a report at the end of the DROP/ADD period for each term to determine any taxable amount. The amount of taxable income will be calculated and spread over at least four pay periods, when possible. Payroll will notify affected employees via email with the taxable amount and the pay periods when the amount will be added to their taxable income.

Please use this form to apply: UWF Tuition Scholarship Program for In-Unit Faculty Dependents Application. Applications are due one week prior to the start of the fall or spring semester. A new application must be submitted each fall and spring semester to apply for the scholarship. If you have any questions, please contact Rachel Conway, rconway@uwf.edu, 850.474.2397.
