Emily Harris

Biography

Ms. Emily Harris has served as a programs specialist for UWF's Office of Undergraduate Research since 2019. Before 2019 and while an OUR graduate assistant, Ms. Harris supported the GeoScholars program with Drs. Allison and Matt Schwartz assessing any change in a student's intellectual merit and professional impacts based on their participation in a collaborative research project between geoscience and other STEM students and faculty mentors. Since 2019, Ms. Harris has and continues to oversee the OUR Explorers Program, OUR Works! Program and Transcript Notations awards. She also co-manages the OUR Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP) and ensures the successful implementation of the annual UWF Student Scholars Symposium and Faculty Research Showcase. Finally, Ms. Harris supports the office's daily and overall operations.

Emily Harris holds a master's in Environmental Sciences from the University of West Florida. During that time, the following works were published:

Ms. Harris has taught general education courses since 2019, specifically the Introduction to Environmental Sciences and Introduction to Earth Sciences courses. In the Earth Sciences course, Ms. Harris incorporated an undergraduate research experience within her class as part of her acceptance into the inaugural OUR CURE Fellows program. Also, in the Introduction to Environmental Sciences courses, students are now using the adapted open educational resources (OER) textbook authored and published in 2023 by Ms. Emily Harris, titled Introduction to Environmental Sciences and Sustainability. Ms. Harris was awarded the UWF faculty adjunct instructor award in the spring of 2023. Ms. Harris is also the Treasurer of the Northwest Chapter of the Florida Association of Environmental Professionals.
