Employee Recognition and Awards Program (ERAP)

Committee Process

The following is the process of the Employee Recognition Awards Program (ERAP) committee:

  • A rubric will be developed with clear, measurable criteria for the selection committee to select award winners based off "above and beyond" job performance and excellence at the university and in the community.
  • The award selection committee will be comprised of:
    • Chaired by the current Marion Viccars Award winner or someone designated by the Provost/Executive Vice President. The chair must be at the director level or above.
    • Two current Nautilus Excellence Award winners (not OPS winners) from each division to be selected by the divisional Vice Presidents.
    • Current Employee of the Year.

Note:  The award selection committee is authorized to award one discretionary Nautilus Excellence Award to any nominee from any division.

  • The following two award winners will continue to be selected by their areas:
    • The President's Award for Leadership in Diversity will be selected by Dr. Kim LeDuff.  
    • Student Government Association Awards will be selected by SGA. 

Nautilus Excellence Awards

The Nautilus Excellence Award recognizes employees for substantial contributions and outstanding performance and professionalism impacting operations, service excellence, inter-departmental effectiveness, and community involvement. Each University Work Force award recipient receives a $2000 (gross) cash award and a certificate. Each OPS award recipient receives a $500 (gross) cash award and a certificate. Awards will be presented at the annual Employee Recognition and Awards Ceremony.

Award Nomination Requirements

  • University Work Force employees must have worked at UWF for three consecutive years as of March 1, 2020 to be eligible for the Nautilus Excellence Award.
  • OPS Staff employees must have worked at UWF for six consecutive months as of March 1, 2020 to be eligible for the Nautilus Excellence Award.
  • Employees who are classified as Director and above are not eligible.

Marion Viccars Awards

The Marion Viccars Award was established by former UWF President James Robinson to recognize superior service of university employees. Marion Viccars began working at the new University of West Florida's John C. Pace Library in 1967. She was an enthusiastic participant in the academic life of the university, an energetic promoter of West Florida's historical preservation activities, and a warm and cordial counselor to students and scholars everywhere.

The Marion Viccars Award recognizes an employee at the Director level and above and a Faculty Administrative (Dean, Associate and Assistant Dean and Chairperson) for substantial contributions, outstanding performance and professionalism impacting operations, service excellence, inter-departmental effectiveness, and community involvement. The award recipient receives a $2000 (gross) cash award and a certificate. Awards will be presented at the annual Employee Recognition and Awards Ceremony.

Award Nomination Requirements

  • Employees must have worked at UWF for three consecutive years as of March 1, 2020 to be eligible for the Marion Viccars Award.
  • This award is for employees at the Director level and above and Faculty Administrators (including Dean, Associate and Assistant Deans, and Chairperson).

Gabor Awards

The Gabor Award for Excellence has been established at the behest of the Gabor Insurance Company to reward outstanding university employees. This award will be presented to one Faculty employee and one Staff employee each year as funding permits. The Gabor Award for Excellence recognizes employees for substantial contributions and outstanding performance and professionalism impacting operations, service excellence, inter-departmental effectiveness, and community involvement. Each award recipient receives a $500 (gross) cash award and a certificate. The award will be present at the annual Employee Recognition and Awards Ceremony.

Award Nomination Requirements

  • Employees must have worked at UWF for three consecutive years as of March 1, 2020 to be eligible for the Gabor Award.
  • Will be awarded to one University Work Force employee and one Faculty employee.

Community Service Awards

The Community Service Award recognizes employees for substantial contributions and outstanding performance and professionalism in the community. Each award recipient receives a $500 (gross) cash award and a certificate. Awards will be presented at the annual Employee Recognition and Awards Ceremony.

Award Nomination Requirements

  • Employees must have worked at UWF for three consecutive years as of March 1, 2020 to be eligible for the Community Service Award.
  • Will be awarded to one employee (either University Work Force or Faculty).

Awards Submission Guidelines

  • All award applications must be submitted on the official nomination form and include three signed letters of recommendation on letterhead.
  • Previous awardees are not eligible for three (3) years.
  • Nominations may be self-appointed or nominated by others (peers, supervisors, colleagues from other divisions, etc.). If the nomination is a self-nomination, then the three letters of recommendation must be from different sources other than the nominee.
  • The selection committee members may not submit nomination(s) or recommendation letters.
  • Nominations received after 5 p.m. on the deadline date of Friday, March 6, 2020, will be declared ineligible.

Retirement and Service Awards

Retirement Awards

The University’s Employee Recognition Program provides retiring employees with a choice of retirement mementos. Please make your selection by completing the retirement selection form within six (6) weeks (if possible) of your retirement date so that your selected retirement award may be ordered. If you have any questions about the Retirement Awards Program, please contact Human Resources at 850-474-2694.

Service Awards

Employees who have achieved increments of five (5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, etc.) continuous years of service with the University of West Florida are eligible to receive a service award and a certificate for their years of service at the University. 

You may pick up your certificate in Human Resources after 2:00 pm on the day of the Employee Recognition Awards Program (ERAP) ceremony. You will also receive an email with a unique redemption code for a dollar value based on your years of service and instructions to redeem your service award. Upon receipt of this email, you should log into the Awardco website and select your award. You may also access the Awardco website through the Employee Service Awards app in MyUWF. 

This service award may be in the form of a gift card or a keepsake. Service awards will be mailed to your home, P.O. Box addresses will not be accepted. You may save your service award until your next milestone year for a more valuable item or donate it to another employee’s Awardco account by completing the Service Awards Transfer form. The form may be completed online under MyUWF.
