Freshman Advising and Registration
All incoming freshmen are required to register for and attend the New Student Orientation hosted by UWF Admissions. If you're a Freshman transfer student, please visit our Academic Advising Process for Freshman Transfer Students webpage for information about advising.
Registration Steps
Step 1: Register for New Student Orientation
Step 2: Activate and upgrade your MyUWF account and enroll in 2-Step Verification
Step 3: Check your UWF email for communication from your Advisor in April*. Your Advisor will start building a preliminary first-semester course schedule starting in May**
*April and May dates correspond to Fall or Summer admitted students. Students starting in the Spring semester will have their schedules created in December.
**Your advisor may reach out to you via your UWF student email to verify any AP, CLEP, IB, dual enrollment and transfer credit that could be applied to your Degree Audit before creating your schedule. Schedules will be created based on the order in which students sign up for orientation, regardless of the orientation date.
Step 4: Wait for communication from your advisor. Once your schedule has been created, your advisor will send a link to your UWF email address for you to schedule an advising appointment with them.
Step 5: Review and finalize your preliminary schedule at your advising appointment. The purpose of the preliminary schedule is to enroll you in courses that are required for your major. Please inform your advisor as soon as possible if your schedule includes a course for which you will already have earned credit.
Please Note:
- No schedule changes will be made prior to your advising appointment.
- If you are changing majors, please complete the Application Major Change form and notify your advisor before scheduling your appointment. Your schedule may need to be adjusted, and you may be required to meet with a different advisor to review your schedule.
- Be sure to check your UWF email regularly for communication from your Academic Advisor.
- Major Changes: If you are changing majors, please complete the Application Major Change form and notify your advisor before scheduling your appointment. Your schedule may need to be adjusted, and you may be required to meet with a different advisor to review your schedule.

- Be on time for your appointment.
- What to bring:
- Have a comprehensive list of AP, IB, CLEP, Dual Enrollment, and all other transfer credits you anticipate earning, including pending exam scores. If you are unsure of how your credits may be applied, please refer to the list of transfer credit equivalencies.
- Bring your questions if you have any, and something to write with. Be prepared to ask questions during your appointment and/or take notes.

The ALEKS Placement exam is used for placement in the first math course for new UWF students declaring majors in the Hal Marcus College of Science and Engineering, the Lewis Bear Jr. College of Business, and Exercise Science majors in the Usha Kundu, MD College of Health. To determine which math course (if any) is required for a major, please check the requirements for that major. If your major requires MAC 2233 or MAC 2311 or higher, you must have credit for the prerequisite course. If you have credit via AP, consult the AP Scores for Calculus table. If not, consult with an academic advisor. For additional information, please review the Placement Exam for Mathematics.
FERPA prevents advisors from being able to discuss most aspects of a student's education, such as academic records, grades, etc., with anyone who is not the student.
For more information about FERPA, please refer to the UWF Registrar FERPA webpage, which includes general information, processes and FAQs.
