Heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC/R) technicians, also called installers or mechanics, work on the systems that control the temperature, humidity, and quality of the air in our homes, workplaces, and all other types of buildings.

Many states require that HVAC/R technicians have a license before they can work independently. NATE and HVAC Excellence certifications are widely recognized both in the field and by customers seeking service. This HVACR Technician Certification course will prepare you for the HVAC Excellence Core and Professional Technician certifications exams, the NATE Core and Specialty Test certification exams, and the EPA Section 608 certification exam.

This HVAC certification course can be completed in 12 months or less and it will help you pass the following entry-level certificate exams:

Online Certified HVAC/R Technician Training Course

Prerequisites and Requirements: There are no prerequisites to take this course. However, we recommend having a high school diploma or GED.

If you have the required work experience to take the NATE or HVAC Excellence certification exams, or currently hold Ready to Work certificates and have 2 years of work experience, it is recommended that you take the HVAC/R Certified Technician course.

Course Objectives:

  • Explain the concepts of heat transfer, BTU, temperature, heat content, sensible heat, latent heat, pressure, gas laws, and work, and describe how they apply to air conditioning and refrigeration systems
  • Describe the four basic components that make up the vapor-compression refrigeration cycle
  • Identify the four major system components and explain their functions in the refrigeration system
  • Properly install an air-conditioning system and put it into operation
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical problems in air-conditioning and heat pump systems

Certified HVAC/R Technician FAQs

Does this course prepare you for a certification? 

Yes, this prepares for the EPA 608 certification. Primarily, it prepares for entry-level certificates needed to enter the HVAC/R industry. You will be able to pass 20+ of the HVAC Excellence Employment Ready certificates and the NATE Ready to Work certificate. However, you will only be provided with an exam voucher package for the HVAC Excellence exam.

What do HVAC technicians do? 

According to Indeed.com, an HVAC technician specializes in the maintenance and repair of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems within residential and commercial properties. An HVAC technician is responsible for a wide range of duties related to the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning of a building. In addition to installing new units, an HVAC technician replaces existing units, repairs damaged units, or performs regular maintenance to keep units operating correctly. They may work on units in finished structures or install them in buildings under construction. HVAC technicians can work as individuals or with maintenance companies.

Heating, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Mechanics and Installers - Employment and Education
