Dr. Liu's teaching interests include the History of China, Japan, and East Asia, U.S. foreign relations, economic history, monetary and fiscal policies, banking, rural finance, state-society relations, empire and colonialism, the history of Manchuria, and East Asian cultures.

Dr. Amy Cook, professor of history, teaches maritime history, Atlantic world, early America and 19th century women.

Nathan Smith, instructor of history, teaches labor history, U.S. History, and public history. He has taught courses in early and modern U.S. History, Old and New South, and a global history of the Cold War.

Joyce Southard began working at the University of West Florida as an academic advisor in 2001. In 2022, Ms. Southard began teaching classes as an adjunct and joined the department as a full-time faculty member in Fall 2024.

Dr. Jamin Wells is the Associate Dean of the College of Arts, Social Sciences, and Humanities. He is also an associate professor of History and teaches courses in local, environmental, digital, and public history. He is also the Lab Director for the Digital Humanities Lab.
