Biography

Garrett Howard, faculty associate, teaches philosophy of art and film.

Howard is interested in art and the world of ideas. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea, and attended graduate lectures on Edmund Husserl and phenomenology at the Catholic University of Louvain in Belgium. 

Howard, who has taught at UWF since 1989, has an interest in aesthetics, art theory, and the philosophy of film. Phenomenology is one of the many philosophical methods Howard offers his students to analyze and discuss various art forms, the role of the artist, and personal aesthetic experience of art.  

Degrees & Institutions

He received a bachelor’s in philosophy and master’s in humanities from UWF, attended graduate seminars in Catholic University of Louvain in Belgium, and post-graduate studies in philosophy, literature and art history from Florida State University.
