Grover Ballard

Biography

Ballard’s academic interests center on the rhetorical underpinnings of countercultural and Do-It-Yourself (DIY) texts. In his teaching, Ballard emphasizes community engagement, often basing projects on Pensacola and its history to encourage student engagement with their local communities. He employs various teaching methods, including strategies tailored for online learning, supported by his certification from Duke University. His focus on accessibility and student agency earned him a nomination for the UWF SGA’s Distinguished Teacher Award in 2023.

Outside of the classroom, Ballard is a celebrated community organizer. He has been recognized with the 2024 Rising Star award and named on the 2024 Community Power List. Ballard is an original member of the 309 Punk Project board of directors, and he volunteers with initiatives like OurCorner and PensaPride. He also manages a community space that hosts events and offers support for local authors and artists.
