Luis Hernandez Gomez
- Pre-Master’s Practicum Student Intern
Biography
Hello, nice to meet you! My name is Luis Hernandez, and I am thrilled to serve the amazing ARGO community as one of your very own pre-master’s interns at Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS). More specifically, I look forward to providing a multiculturally-sensitive, safe space for every student at UWF with the aim to cultivate their sense of belonging, academic success, personal growth, and overall well-being.
Additionally, I primarily operate from a cognitive-behavioral approach. In short, I believe that to live a meaningful life, it can be beneficial to adopt a realistic belief system as well as increase our overall distress tolerance. Likewise, it can be helpful to unconditionally accept our circumstances, be mindful of the present moment, and identify those things that lie within our control to direct purposeful action toward our overarching goals. Not to mention, let’s stop taking ourselves, others, and life too seriously!
Beyond that, I will be the first to admit that navigating this life can be quite the challenge. However, I am a firm believer in the famous words of Frederick Douglass: “If there is no struggle, there is no progress.” With that in mind, my primary goal is to help each UWF student that walks through our doors to gain the insight, tools, and the motivation for action necessary to better adapt to the ever-changing and uncertain nature of this thing we all call life.
