eLearning for Faculty

UWF's online courses are made available through eLearning, which is hosted by Canvas, one of the leaders in the online learning field. eLearning is widely used by UWF instructors to hold fully online courses and to supplement traditional courses with online content. For eLearning support that is not related to logging in, contact the Canvas Support Hotline: Students: 1-844-866-3349 Faculty: 1-833-400-5564

eLearning contains a full suite of tools designed to enhance the learning experience for online students. Course content can be uploaded as documents or written in the eLearning HTML editor.

Variety can be added to course content with discussion groups and blogs. Assessment is also integrated, with online quizzes and grades, and reporting capabilities for instructors.

Instructors will find all the tools they need to efficiently manage an online course, such as an assignment dropbox, class email system, news posting, and rubrics.

  1. Flag your eLearning course availability in Classmate.
This process is necessary to identify your course as an eLearning course.
For assistance, contact the Academic Technology Center at Ext. 7291 or Ext. 7239.

  2. Link sections to a single eLearning course using the eLearning Course Manager in ClassMate.
eLearning tech codes must be set before sections can be linked. Sections can be linked until the end of the semester. If necessary, instructors can unlink sections until the first day of class for the course term (A, B, C); after that date, instructors must contact the ITS Help Desk in order to unlink sections.

  3. Wait for email notification that your course shell has been automatically created.
The eLearning tech code must be set to enroll students into the course shellThe first course shells will be created eight weeks before the start of the semester for those who set their tech codes before this time. Thereafter, course shells will be created 24 hours after the tech code is set.

  4. Add new content to a course shell or copy content from an existing course or a development course into the course shell.
For assistance, contact the Academic Technology Center at Ext. 7291 or Ext. 7239.
