Susan A. Woolf

Biography

Susan A. Woolf serves as the General Counsel for the University of West Florida. In her position as general counsel, Ms. Woolf provides legal guidance and counsel in executive and policy decision-making and serves as a member of the President’s senior leadership group.  Ms. Woolf leads the Office of General Counsel and its team, as well as overseeing the work of outside counsel retained to represent the University.  She oversees and manages the provision of all legal services to the University and Board of Trustees; provides counsel and guidance on all legal matters relevant to the University; and performs other duties as requested by the President and Board of Trustees.

Prior to joining the University in 2021, Ms. Woolf worked for the City of Pensacola for a total of seven years as city attorney, assistant city attorney, and general counsel for the Pensacola Police Department.  She previously was the general counsel for the Escambia County Clerk of Court, a partner in a local law firm, a prosecutor for the First Judicial Circuit in Escambia County, and a law clerk for a federal appellate judge.  During the course of her varied career, Ms. Woolf has worked as an attorney in all three branches of government, at the federal, state, and local government levels, in trial and appellate courts, and in the public and private sectors.  Her clients have included boards, corporations, government entities, and private individuals.  Ms. Woolf has spoken at many seminars and professional groups on topics ranging from Florida public records law for the executive, legislative, and judicial branches to employment topics.

Ms. Woolf’s community involvement has included serving on the boards of FavorHouse of Northwest Florida, the Escambia-Santa Rosa Bar Association, and the Panhandle Tiger Bay Club. 

Ms. Woolf earned her bachelor’s degree from Emory University. She received her jurisprudence doctorate from Cornell Law School.
