The healthcare field offers many career paths, from hands-on patient care to administrative work. For those looking to enter the field without pursuing a traditional four-year degree, UWF Continuing Education offers in-demand health services programs that provide specialized training and preparation for a new career, including training for careers such as a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) or Certified Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS).
What is a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant?
A Certified Clinical Medical Assistant works alongside physicians and other medical professionals to assist with patient care and clinical tasks. Main responsibilities include taking vital signs, administering injections or medications, assisting with exams and procedures, and performing EKG and phlebotomy tasks.
UWF Continuing Education’s CCMA program combines live, virtual instruction with hands-on training. The program prepares students for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) CCMA certification exam and includes a voucher in the program tuition.
What is a Certified Billing and Coding Specialist?
Patient care is only one part of keeping a medical practice running smoothly. Behind the scenes, medical billing and coding professionals work with patient records and information needed to document services, process claims and support accurate reimbursement.
Certified Billing and Coding Specialists review medical records, assign standardized codes based on diagnoses and procedures, and work with health information used for billing and reimbursement. UWF Continuing Education's Medical Billing and Coding program is fully online and covers coding systems, health information, as well as the legal, ethical and regulatory concepts involved in maintaining health-related data. The program prepares students for the NHA Certified Billing and Coding Specialist exam, with a certification exam voucher included in the program tuition.
