BA English, Writing
The English specialization in Writing trains students in the field of creative writing.
Program Description
The English Writing specialization centers on a workshop-based curriculum that provides hands-on training for emerging creative writers in the areas of poetry, short fiction, playwriting, and creative nonfiction. The program is an ideal place to develop your creative potential and delve deeply into the literary arts.
With help from students, the department publishes two literature magazines: Panhandler, which features creative work from professional writers throughout the country, and The Troubadour, a poetry and short fiction magazine written and edited entirely by students.
Students who choose the Writing specialization develop their writing and editing skills in a supportive, close-knit community of fellow writers, led by our expert faculty. Graduates possess the experience needed for jobs in the publishing industry or in writing-intensive careers in business or government. Internships on campus or in the community offer additional preparation for careers in writing, editing, public relations, teaching, and other fields.
