Philosophy majors excel in the workforce. A Wall Street Journal study showed that the median salaries of philosophy majors 10 years after graduation ranked 16th out of 50 majors, ahead of business majors.

You will benefit from small class sizes and close working relationships with faculty. You will join in vibrant discussion on issues of social relevance. Through the Capstone Research Project, you will work closely with a professor, delving deeply into a particular problem in the field.

What You Will Learn

The study of philosophy transmits the heritage that created the foundations of contemporary life and that shapes the future in science, religion, politics, law and ethics.

The program helps you develop creative problem-solving skills and emphasizes communication, interpretation, criticism and evaluation.

You will study Greek philosophy, modern philosophy, modern logic and ethics. You will choose from such courses as environmental ethics, biomedical ethics and philosophy of religion. You will engage with faculty of diverse expertise and have opportunities to gain great disciplinary breadth as well as many highly transferable workforce skills.
