Adetoyosi Obikoya, M.A., LMHC

Biography

It brings me great joy to serve as a licensed mental health counselor within Counseling and Psychological Services. Prior to becoming a member of the professional counseling staff, I served as the outreach graduate assistant for CAPS in 2018 and completed my pre-master's internship here in 2021. I am deeply passionate about catering to the needs of all UWF students, with a special emphasis on working with students at-risk for non-graduation.

My approach to therapy primarily involves cognitive behavioral methods with occasional reference to other theories as well. I strive to assist clients in changing how they perceive and respond to presenting concerns as opposed to eliminating them entirely. I also focus on how current inter and intrapersonal patterns can be traced back to one's family of origin. It is very important to me that clients feel accepted, valued, and heard.

I am a proud alumna of the illustrious Tuskegee University where I received my bachelor's degree in psychology. After leaving Tuskegee, I completed my graduate training here at UWF where I earned my master's degree in psychology with a concentration in clinical mental health counseling.
