Inaugural UWF Asian Studies Conference

The Center for Asian Studies at the University of West Florida is pleased to announce its inaugural Asian Studies Conference. The mission of the Center for Asian Studies at UWF is to develop and support programs and activities that enhance the understanding of Asian societies, cultures, current topics, and languages. The Asian Studies Conference is an integral part of this mission, and we welcome submissions from university faculty, researchers, and graduate students throughout the world.


Conference Central Themes

  • Politics and security, which includes topics such as diplomacy, international relations, proliferation, cybersecurity, and natural disaster.
  • Culture and society, which includes topics such as language, arts, literature, education, media, communications, and religion.

Submission Types

The conference welcomes various submission types: papers, panels, and roundtables.

  • Papers require a title, abstract, three tags, and the author(s) to submit. Titles need to be fewer than 50 words and abstracts need to be fewer than 200 words.
  • Panels must have a title, abstract and tag words as well as three (3) papers (complete with title, tags, abstract and authors). Titles need to be fewer than 50 words and abstracts need to be fewer than 200 words. (Please note that papers submitted on panels should not be submitted a second time independently of the panel. If the panel is not accepted, the papers submitted on the panel go into the normal wait pool with all of our other papers.
  • Roundtables are similar to panels but participants do not present papers. At least one (1) chair and two (2) participants are needed to submit a panel, along with a title, tags, and abstract. Titles need to be less than 50 words and abstracts need to be fewer than 200 words.

How To Submit Your Proposal

  • The deadline for all submissions is January 31, 2020.
  • Submit proposals to asianstudies@uwf.edu.
  • Please include “Asian Studies Proposal” in the subject line.
  • Each proposal must have the following: author(s), title, institutional affiliation, and submission type (paper, panel, roundtable).
  • Accepted submissions will be notified by Feb. 21, 2020.
