Applying as an Exchange Student

Every semester the University of West Florida hosts exchange students from around the globe. International Student and Scholars Services assists exchange students and our partner institutions throughout the process.

Step 1

Submit an Application and Supporting Documents

International students interested in participating in the UWF exchange program must first be nominated by their home institution. Once confirmation of a student's eligibility has been received, the acceptance process can begin.

Exchange applications are due by Fall—April 1 | Spring—October 15:

  1. Complete the application. No application fee is required.
  2. Send transcripts from your home institution in English.
  3. Submit proof of English proficiency. This can be the TOEFL, IELTS, or another institutionally approved test. Students from partner institutions where the only language of instruction is English are exempt from this requirement.

All documents can be scanned and sent electronically to international@uwf.edu.

Next Steps

There are still several things you need to do before you start your adventure at UWF, before arriving for orientation. Read J-1 Exchange Student Resource Guide for a full list of instructions and resources.

  1. Obtain a J-1 exchange visa
  2. Find Housing
  3. Maintain Insurance
  4. Register for Class
  5. Register for international orientation

Registering for Classes

Registering for classes early is important, as some classes reach their enrollment capacity quickly. Not all classes are offered every semester. Check the registration catalog to determine class availability.

To register for classes, complete the following steps:

  1. Submit your immunization documentation. You will not be able to register for classes until your immunization documentation has been verified.
  2. Register for classes using the Registration Guide. If you have problems registering for classes or you need a prerequisite lifted, please email registrarexchange@uwf.edu.

International Orientation

International Orientation is required for all new students. We review immigration regulations, introduce you to people across the campus, and give you a tour of UWF. It is a chance to make new friends and be welcomed to your new university home. During orientation, you will receive your Nautilus card (student ID), have the opportunity to learn more about purchasing a cell phone and opening a bank account, schedule a time to complete your required International Programs check-in, and receive a campus tour. You will be assigned to a small group led by one of our Student Orientation Assistants (SOA). This will allow you to make connections with other students, receive personalized answers to your questions, and get the most out of your orientation.
