Biography
Dr. Loretta Jones, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Practice with more than 25 years of
experience in professional nursing practice and nursing education. Her clinical expertise includes
medical-surgical, adult health nursing, maternal-child health, and cardiovascular nursing. She
also brings more than 10 years of experience in online education, including teaching and
mentoring graduate and Doctor of Nursing Practice students.
Prior to joining the University of West Florida, Dr. Jones served in a variety of academic and
clinical roles at the University of South Alabama and as an instructor at Bishop State Community
College. Her professional background includes clinical practice, nursing education, leadership,
and mentoring students across multiple levels of nursing education.
As a nurse educator, Dr. Jones is committed to developing and mentoring future nurses,
supporting student success, and improving learning outcomes. Her academic interests include
interprofessional education and collaboration, simulation, NCLEX success coaching, innovative
teaching strategies, and approaches that promote student achievement and retention.
Dr. Jones earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Master of Science in Nursing in Adult
Health Nursing, and Family Nurse Practitioner preparation from the University of Mobile. She
earned her PhD in Nursing from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, with a scholarly
focus on African American women following myocardial infarction.
