Ida Montgomery

Biography

Ida Montgomery, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC, Assistant Professor of Clinical Practice, teaches in the Family Nurse Practitioner Track.

Dr. Ida Montgomery has 27 years of nursing experience, with 20 years as a family nurse practitioner. She has worked in a variety of clinical settings: family practice, patient-centered medical home, women’s health, acute care and aviation medicine. She has experience in teaching in a BSN-DNP program.

Prior to joining UWF Dr. Montgomery spent 24 years as an active duty Army officer. She had many clinical and leadership opportunities. She proudly supported the medical readiness of our fighting force and deployed to Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). She is thankful and proud of her military service. She retired as a Lieutenant Colonel Army Nurse with many awards and decorations.

Dr. Montgomery had the unique opportunity to work in graduate medical education where she became the DNP phase II site director. This position helped her develop her teaching skills and realize that teaching was her passion. She has presented as several professional conferences on women’s health disparities: female soldier hygiene issues in a deployed setting, menstrual cycle suppression, human papilloma virus, fertility issues and female soldier medical readiness.

She received her Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from Regents University Albany New York, Master’s in Nursing (FNP) from Hawaii Pacific University (HPU) and her Doctorate of Nursing Practice from University of Alabama at Birmingham.
