The arts play a critical role in our society. The role of arts managers is to nurture environments in which artistic excellence can thrive. A degree in arts administration from the University of West Florida will give you the knowledge, tools and understanding you need to lead, develop, fund and advocate for the arts. No audition is required.
Why Study Arts Administration at UWF?
Our interdisciplinary humanities program will give you a strong foundation in an artistic discipline (music, theatre or art and design) as well as practical knowledge about the business and communications needs of successful arts organizations.
The program combines classes in business and communication with artistic study, giving you a well-rounded background for a career in the non-profit arts world or for graduate studies.
Our program is the only undergraduate arts administration program in the state of Florida.
What You Will Learn
This program will provide you with a broad understanding of the administrative functions within an arts organization, including marketing, fundraising and management. A variety of electives allow you to design your own path through the program.
You will choose one of the three artistic disciplines: art and design, music or theatre. You will find commonality among the artistic areas by working with other students across the disciplines.
Within your last semesters of study, you will complete a capstone project or internship. The internship is with a local, regional or national non-profit arts organization. The capstone project gives you an opportunity to showcase academic accomplishments within a unifying professional experience.
The Arts Administration program at UWF is a member of the Association of Arts Administration Educators.
UWF programs offered at the Pensacola campus or UWF Emerald Coast may require online courses. Discuss the program requirements and planning with your academic advisor.
