Estimated Direct Cost Calculator

This calculator will help you estimate direct costs based on credit hours, meal plan selection and whether you live on campus.

About the calculator

This self-service tool is designed to help you quickly estimate cost differences based on your choice of housing and meal plans. You can also account for the impact of potential scholarships.

This estimate does not include indirect costs like books, parking, or supplies. It does not account for Florida Prepaid.

As with our more detailed cost calculator, the estimates generated by this calculator do not represent a final determination, or actual award, of financial assistance or a final net price; they are only estimates based on price of attendance and potential financial aid in a given year. The estimates shall not be binding on the Department of Education or the University of West Florida.

For more information about costs, visit the cost of attendance estimates used to determine financial aid awards.

Using the Calculator

For the calculations to work properly, you must enter per-semester amounts in each field.

Per-Semester Estimated Cost:
Per-Academic Year Estimated Cost:
(Two semesters)

This calculator uses the following formulas:

  • Total Direct Cost: Tuition rate per credit hour multiplied by the number of credit hours, plus the estimated costs for housing and meals.
  • Per-Semester Estimated Cost: Total Direct Cost minus grants, scholarships and loans for one semester. This does not include indirect costs like books, supplies and transportation.
  • Per-Academic Year Estimated Cost: Per-Semester Estimated Cost times two, typically for the fall and spring terms.

*Tuition amount above is based on 15 hours per semester at the in-state rate of $212/hour; out-of-state tuition, $641/hour. For in-state graduate students, tuition is calculated at 6 hours per semester at $378/hour; out-of-state, $1,037/hour. The Alabama differential tuition rate is $317/hour for undergraduate students; tuition is $483/hour for a graduate student. Online courses are priced approximately $7 more per credit hour.

**Look for these fields on your financial aid award letter if you completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
