CompTIA Security+

CompTIA Security+ is a global certification that validates the baseline skills necessary to perform core security functions and pursue an IT security career. This online course offers a comprehensive guide for students wishing to take the CompTIA® Security+ SY0-601 Certification Exam.


The course provides an introduction to the fundamentals of network security, including compliance and operational security; threats and vulnerabilities; application, data, and host security; access control and identity management; and cryptography. The course covers new topics in network security as well, including psychological approaches to social engineering attacks, Web application attacks, penetration testing, data loss prevention, cloud computing security, and application programming development security.

Admission Requirements

CTS 4121 is a stand-alone course that can be applied as an elective for computer science (with advisor/chair approval), cybersecurity and IT majors. In order to qualify for the course, you need to have completed CGS 3763: Operating Systems Concepts, COP 4634: Systems and Networks I, OR COP: 4610 Theory and Fundamentals of Operating Systems.
