Industry Mentoring Program

Male and female talking

The University of West Florida Industry Mentoring in STEM program seeks to promote the academic success of students traditionally underrepresented in the fields of science and engineering by matching them with industry mentors in their field of study as they prepare for careers beyond campus.

With a special focus on diversity and inclusion, UWF’s Hal Marcus College of Science and Engineering (HMCSE) is pleased to offer a mentor program where our undergraduates are partnered with industry professionals to establish connections, gain valuable insights into issues such as career choice, networking skills, and career development.

We believe that representation matters. To facilitate the matching process, mentors will be paired with students based on academic and career fields, shared interests, and/or availability.

Goals and Objectives

As an integral part of the HMCSE Strategic Plan, the purpose of the STEM Mentor Program is to promote the success of traditionally underrepresented groups within the fields of science and engineering by integrating a mentoring relationship as part of the pathway to career readiness and advancement as they complete their degree.

The goals and objectives of the STEM Mentor relationship are:

  • Support students on their path from successful degree completion to job placement or graduate school entry.
  • Gain guidance and insight into becoming competitive for employment opportunities.
  • Provide an opportunity for students to learn and practice professional networking skills.
