The following information answers the frequently asked questions about the Institute for Analytics and Industry Advancement (IAIA) courses.

SOLIDWORKS Professional

Non-credit courses are ideal for individuals who wish to gain the knowledge and skills from the course and/or earn the certification but do not need college credit for it. One advantage of non-credit courses is they do not require an application to the University. You can simply “add to cart” and be enrolled immediately without going through an application process. These courses are ideal for working professionals or career changers seeking to continue their education without a need for college credit. 

Credit courses are best suited for individuals who wish to earn college credit upon completion of the course, which will be recorded on a college transcript. Both degree and non-degree seeking students must apply to the University of West Florida and be admitted in order to enroll in the course and earn credit. An application fee may apply. Once admitted to the University, students will register for these classes through their MyUWF student portal.

This course is PASS/FAIL. The student must pass the CSWP exam in order to receive a grade of “Satisfactory.

Yes, a voucher to take the exam will be provided to the student.

Yes, CSWP Exam Prep is an ME & Engineering Technology advisor-approved elective; ECE can be used as a professional development elective.

Yes, for-credit courses follow the same rules for financial aid and military benefits. It still needs to apply to your degree and, for financial aid, you need to be degree-seeking.

Yes, the student will receive an incomplete if they do not pass the exam, however, they have until the end of the following semester to pass the exam. There is a 14-day wait time between taking the exam again.

The course is asynchronous - students work at their own pace. 

Courses that run through UWF Continuing Education (credit and non-credit) are assessed tuition, even for employees. For credit programs, there is a UWF Employee and UWF Employee Dependent Waiver and a Continuing Education version of this waiver as well for use on Continuing Education credit courses. This can only be used if the person is degree-seeking or non-degree seeking but in a certificate program code.

NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering

No, the exam costs $175 and is the responsibility of the student. 

No, A student will receive an Unsatisfactory grade if they fail to provide proof they have registered to take the exam. If a student has a problem set average above 70%, a final exam average above 60%, and they have provided proof of registration, they will receive a Satisfactory grade. If a student has either a problem set average below 70% or a final exam average below 60% and they have provided proof of exam registration, they will receive an Incomplete. The Incomplete can be changed to a Satisfactory grade if the student provides proof of passing the FE exam.

EGN 4950. This is to ensure the student is an upper-level engineering student. EGN 4950 can be taken as a concurrent prerequisite. Non-degree seeking students can complete the course or students who have graduated can get an override to complete the course.

CompTIA Security+

Standard letter grade. 

No, a voucher will be provided if applicable term. 

The student will earn the grade in the class but not earn the certificate. 

Yes, but you will need approval from the advisor/chair to make sure it fits in the degree plan.

CGS 3763: Operating Systems Concepts, COP 4634: Systems & Networks I, OR COP 4610: Theory and Fundamentals of Operating Systems.

No, the prerequisites cannot be waived.
