Biography

Dr. Julianna Costanzo, instructor of Philosophy, teaches Ethics of AI, Social and Political Philosophy, Ethics in Contemporary Society, and Critical Thinking. Costanzo decided to specialize in Ethics and Political Philosophy after she realized the practical impact that research in these fields could have on creating a better world for all people. 

Degrees & Institutions

Costanzo earned her Bachelor's, Master's, and PhD in Philosophy from the University of Florida.  

Research

Costanzo's primary research interest is the intersection of AI and justice. Her dissertation addresses justice concerns that arise from the government's use of Artificial Intelligence in two contexts: (1) incarceration and (2) screening individuals for mental illness. She has presented her research at conferences in the U.S. and abroad. In 2024, she traveled to Portugal to present at The International Conference on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence. In January of 2025, she won an award from the Florida Philosophical Association for her ethical analysis of the deployment of AI systems on social media that screen users for depression without informed consent. 
Her broader research interests include Ethics, Political Philosophy, Applied Ethics, Applied Political Philosophy, and Bioethics.
