Roommates
Roommates are a big part of your on campus living experience, so it is important to consider your answers to all questions in the contracting process. See below for information about how to select a roommate. If you do not specify a roommate, housing will assign one to you based on the preferences you indicate in your housing contract.
There are two ways to request a specific roommate:
- For students who do not currently live on campus: Include their name and date of birth on your housing contract.
- If you’re a returning resident, meaning you’re currently living on campus, and are planning to live on campus again the following semester: You can participate in the online room selection process which lets you specify who you would like to be roommates with and which space you’d like to live in.
Roommate Requests that can't be met:
Roommate requests must be reciprocal, meaning that all involved students must request each other on their housing contracts. If you were not placed with your requested roommate, one of several things may have occurred:
- The person you requested did not apply in time for you to be placed with them.
- Your requested roommate's housing contract was not complete when we ran assignments. (ex: they did not pay their prepayment, they did not complete the contract, they have not received their meningitis vaccination, etc.)
- Your preferences did not match the other person's preferences.
- There were no rooms available that could accommodate you and your requested roommate(s) together.
If you have questions about why your requested roommate was not placed with you, please email housing@uwf.edu.
Roommate Agreements
We strongly encourage roommates to discuss and agree on ground rules for living together prior-to or upon move-in. To help facilitate that discussion, please use the provided UWF Housing Roommate Agreement. The housing agreement covers things like equipment sharing, when guests are and are not welcome in shared spaces, and how each roommate prefers to be communicated with.
If you encounter problems after having completed the agreement together, you can modify this agreement by contacting a Residence Hall staff member. All things agreed upon do not supersede the Housing Handbook, Code of Conduct, or other University Regulations.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)
Open housing allows students of all gender identifications to reside in the same room, suite or apartment. All residents within a room, suite or apartment must agree to be in open housing. You will be able to select that you would like to live in open housing when you apply.
You may view your room assignment in MyUWF by searching for “Housing Contracts and Services.” Then click on the Room Assignment and Roommates button.
Double check that your roommate’s name is spelled correctly and that you’ve used the MM/DD/YYYY format when entering their birth date.
A roommate PIN is a unique number that allows students to add other students as roommates. Roommates should agree on a group and group leader. The group leader will collect the group members' names, birth dates and PINs in order to add them as roommates.
To set your roommate's PIN:
- Log into MyUWF
- Search for Housing Contracts and Services
