Assembly and Processional Information for Graduates


A printed version of the ceremony instructions provided here will also be included in the cap and gown packages. UWF does not hold a ceremony rehearsal.

Graduates should familiarize themselves with the layout of the Pensacola Bay Center, the parking logistics and how best to access your entrance. Directional signage will be placed outside and along the tunnels around the Pensacola Bay Center to assist graduates in locating the line up areas. Volunteers will be on hand to direct students and guests. Graduates will enter the Pensacola Bay Center from the north ground-level entrances. The entrances are adjacent to Gregory Street. 

Graduates must assemble in their respective areas at least 45 minutes prior to the start of the ceremony. College marshals and ushers will be available to assist you in the organization of the processional. 

Graduates will process by type of degree then by college. The order of ceremony is- doctorals, educational specialists, masters then bachelors. Candidates are not lined up alphabetically.

Undergraduate Instructions 10:00 a.m. Ceremony (CoB, UKCoH, and HMCoSE)

10:00 AM INSTRUCTIONS

Students must have their name card for the reader completed BEFORE proceeding to the stage. Undergraduates must where their tassels on the right side of cap. Students will move the tassel to the left side when directed by the President during conferral. 

Undergraduate from College of Business proceed into the arena in two, side by side lines from the Tunnel Hallway, down the center aisle. Next, undergraduates from Usha Kundu, MD College of Health, followed by Hal Marcus College of Science and Engineering proceed into the arena in two, side by side lines from the back Tunnel Hallway down the center aisle. Students break off to seating on their respective side where staff direct them to a seat in Section A (left side) or Section B (right side). Students are seated once reaching their chair. 

When the Dean requests the students approach the stage for acceptance of the diploma scrolls, students have a photo taken then proceed to the stage.

For acceptance of the diploma scroll, students enter the stage from their respective side (Section A-left side and Section B- right side) then present their name card to the reader at the podium. Students proceed forward to receive diploma scroll from the Dean, shake hands with the Provost or President (respective to the side walking) and exit down the center stairs. Graduates must stay alert to the stairs to prevent falling. 

Graduates will recess in two lines from the ceremony following faculty. Students will pass through the Faculty Alumn-line when exiting the Pensacola Bay Center.

Once the ceremony has begun, graduates must stay for the duration of the ceremony. 

ON-SITE CAP & GOWN EXCHANGES

Bookstore representatives will be available before the ceremony in the center hallway of the Pensacola Bay Center tunnel near the back entrance for exchanges of items that may not fit properly or for wrong colored tassels only.

RESTROOMS

Facilities are available during the ceremony in the Tunnel Hallway locker rooms on the south side ONLY.

Masters Instructions 10:00 a.m. Ceremony (CoB, UKCoH, and HMCoSE)

10:00 AM INSTRUCTIONS

Students must have their name card for the reader completed BEFORE proceeding to the stage. 

Master's candidates from College of Business proceed into the arena in a single line from the Northwest Entrance down the left aisle. Next, master's candidates from Usha Kundu, MD College of Health, followed by Hal Marcus College of Science and Engineering proceed into the arena in a single line from the Northeast Entrance down the left aisle. Staff will direct students to a seat in Section A (left side) through to Section B (right side). Students are seated once reaching their chair. 

When the Interim Vice Provost requests the students approach the stage for hooding and acceptance of the diploma scrolls, students have a photo taken then proceed to the stage.

Master's candidates enter the stage from the right side, then present their name card to the reader at the podium. Candidates proceed forward to the Intervim Vice Provost for hooding, receive diploma scroll from the Interim Provost, proceed to the President for a picture and exit off the left side of stage. Students are urged to stay alert while descending the stairs to avoid falling. 

Candidates should drape the hood over the right arm. The neckband portion should drape over the outside of the arm. Verify that the black string is unclasped so the hood can be easily placed over the head. Graduate tassels should be worn on the left side of cap.

Graduates recess following faculty. Students will pass through the Faculty Alumn-line when exiting the Pensacola Bay Center.

Next, undergraduates from College of Education and Professional Studies proceed into the arena in two, side by side lines from the back Tunnel Hallway down the center aisle. Students break off to seating on their respective side where staff direct them to a seat in Section A (left side) or Section B (right side). Students are seated once reaching their chair.

Doctoral/Ed.S. Instructions 2:00 p.m. Ceremony (CASSH and CEPS)

Accommodations

Students needing assistance should contact the Commencement Co-Coordinator, Lori Milkeris at (850)474-2250 or lmilkeris@uwf.edu at least two weeks prior to the ceremony. The Coordinator will work with the student to identify special instructions so proper assistance is provided.
