The “feed,” or podcast file, maintains information about the episodes that comprise the podcast. There are a number of software packages available for creating the feed. We recommend “Feed Editor” (available for purchase at http://www.extralabs.net/feed-editor.htm).

Mac Users: When creating a feed on a Mac, we recommend "Feeder" (available for purchase at http://reinventedsoftware.com/feeder/). If you are creating your podcast with Apple's iLife software, the "iWeb" program can also create a page that lets you manage your podcast feed.

Specific steps for creating the feed depend on the software you are using. Please refer to the documentation that accompanies the software for instructions. UWF faculty may contact the Academic Technology Center (ATC) for help getting started. When creating your feed, be sure to do the following:

1. Use the appropriate feed format
   The feed should use the RSS 2.0 format (latest standard).
   
   
2. Verify that the feed validates
   Use http://feedvalidator.org to test your feed and correct any errors before publishing.
   
   
3. Name the feed appropriately
   Name the feed: <name_of_file>.xml (use underlines “_” for spaces).
   For example: uwf_news_feed.xml
