Biography
Dan Lucas serves as the Vice President of Finance and Administration for the University of West Florida and the Chief Financial Officer for the UWF Foundation. A Florida native and certified public accountant, he provides strategic leadership and oversight for several key University operations, including Business and Auxiliary Services, the Controller’s Office, Emergency Management, Environmental Health and Safety, Facilities Management, University Police, and Procurement and Contracts. His division also oversees Business Enterprises Inc., a direct support organization of the University.
As CFO of the UWF Foundation, Lucas is responsible for managing accounting and business operations, overseeing an investment portfolio of approximately $145 million, and fulfilling fiduciary responsibilities for housing assets and public/private debt compliance. Since 2014, he has refunded bonds that resulted in more than $2.89 million in debt service savings. He continues to advance operational efficiencies across the university, integrating systems in areas such as scholarship awarding, contract negotiation, human resources, union negotiations, and business processes.
Lucas holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Florida Atlantic University. His professional background includes serving a diverse portfolio of clients including entrepreneurial ventures, not-for-profit organizations, financial institutions, and large governmental entities. His experience also extends to entrepreneurial leadership roles in the real estate and mortgage lending industries. During the great financial crisis, Lucas guided organizational growth and led the development of operational compliance systems, personnel recruitment and training, capital market and warehouse lending relationships, and multi-state licensing and regulatory compliance. He also secured HUD, VA, USDA and conventional underwriting approvals as an independent mortgage banker.
Since becoming part of the team in 2014, Mr. Lucas continues to improve and integrate systems within University Advancement enhancing the efficiency in its role as it supports the University. He has also negotiated the refunding of two bond issues that combined, reduced debt service payments by more than $2.89 million. He is currently working in conjunction with the Office of Financial Aid and multiple University departments to centralize scholarship awarding and systems processing across the campus.
