Accreditation information for Clinical Laboratory Sciences
UWF's MLS Program is accredited by NAACLS (National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Personnel) and approved by the Board of Clinical Laboratory Personnel (BCLP) of the state of Florida. The Program has a history of 35 + years of successful operation and has a reputation for excellence in the education and training of clinical laboratory personnel. Since 1986 the Program has been offered through a university-based clinical laboratory sciences curriculum, with a capstone component of 29 weeks of practicum at one program's affiliate hospitals across Florida and part of Alabama.
Graduates of the Program are eligible to obtain national Board certification through an examination given by ASCP-Board of Certification (certified as MLS-ASCP), and are credentialed as a Medical Laboratory Scientist.
Graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences from the University of West Florida may not fulfill licensure requirements for every state, particularly NY and CA. Please research your potential state licensure requirements.
Alumni of the Program constitute a significant portion of the clinical laboratory work force through out Northwest Florida. Some of them hold supervisory or managerial positions, making significant contributions to the health and welfare of the public, and to the economic well being of the health care industry in the region.
