Biography

Dr. Shauna Maciel is an instructor in the Medical Laboratory Sciences Department in the Usha Kundu, M.D. College of Health. She
teaches immunohematology, immunohematology lab, immunodiagnostic, immunodiagnostics lab, urinalysis and body fluids,
urinalysis and body fluids lab, hemostasis and coagulation lab, and special clinical topics.


Dr. Maciel is a medical laboratory scientist with 24 years of experience. She has worked at Baptist Hospital in Pensacola and Gulf
Breeze all areas of the clinical lab. She also worked in the transfusion service at Baptist Hospital in Pensacola as a senior
technologist for two years. Maciel worked as Quality Assurance Program Manager for OneBlood, Inc. in Pensacola for 16 years,
assisting with regulatory issues and inspection readiness, and as their radiation safety officer. She began adjunct teaching at UWF in
2020 in the biology department. She has been an adjunct instructor in the MLS department since 2021.


Dr. Maciel earned her bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory science from the University of West Florida. She earned her master’s
degree in immunohematology and clinical laboratory science from George Washington University as well as her doctorate in health
sciences in leadership in clinical practice and education. She also holds a Specialist in Blood Banking certification from ASCP.
