Biography

Kristen Coffey, instructor, teaches medical microbiology and diagnostic molecular biology.

Coffey’s academic interests focus on designing and modifying molecular assays, and enhancing education through interprofessional collaboration. She participated in an interprofessional grant project that used genetic predisposition to deep vein thrombosis as a teaching tool for 60 nursing and clinical laboratory sciences students. The project was presented at the regional American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science meeting.

Before she began teaching at UWF in 2010, she was a research associate conducting basic and applied research in environmental microbiology at the Center for Environmental Diagnostics and Bioremediation at UWF. She is certified as a molecular biology technologist through the American Society for Clinical Pathology. 

She received a bachelor’s in microbiology and master’s in biology at UWF.
