Dr. Usha Kundu

After growing up in rural India, Dr. Usha Kundu opened an obstetrics and gynecology practice in Pensacola in 1983. Her husband, Mahadeb, a civil engineer, served as an adjunct professor for UWF in the mid-1980s. The couple served their community for 40 years and determined they wanted to do something more for the community and the university that served them.

Their generous gift to UWF and the College of Health in 2017, provided opportunities for active, engaged and experiential learning in the college. Additionally, their funding afforded equipment and instrumentation for use in the academic and research environment as well as academic excellence for faculty within the college. To Dr. Kundu, education is of highest importance. Growing up with little opportunity for progress, she credits education as the reason for her success and her ability to give back to the University of West Florida.

"I will be happy if graduates can bring changes for the betterment of people’s lives, like I hope I did,” she said. To future current and future students of the college, she has one message, “You need to have goals and desire, be persistent and work hard."
