Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP)
The UWF Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP) is designed to expose undergraduate students to advanced research in their field of study.
About SURP
Program Overview: The Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP) allows students to fully invest in the summer semester's research experience. The SURP Program involves faculty and student collaboration in original research that should result in some tangible product (i.e., publication, presentation, etc.). Still, its most valuable contribution is the development of the student in ways not possible in traditional classroom settings. To maximize the SURP experience, student participants are expected to work 20 hours per week on their designated research project and are paid an hourly wage (up to $3,120) for their participation. As a result, participants should not enroll in more than one summer course. Exceptions are occasionally made to this guideline when the faculty mentor has worked with the student previously and is confident in the student's ability to manage the high demands of the SURP program with an additional course. Students can also request up to $500 to purchase materials and supplies for conducting their research project.
Eligibility and Dates: To qualify for the SURP program, the student's research must be mentored by a UWF faculty member. Current undergraduate, degree-seeking students who are in good standing with the University are eligible to apply. Applications for the SURP program are typically due the Friday before spring break every year.
