STEM Peer Coaching

STEM Peer Coaching is students helping students succeed in Physics I (PHY 2048 Calculus-based and PHY 2053 Algebra-based), and Earth and Environmental Science majors. Coaches guide students through successful time management strategies, new study skills, and referrals to campus resources.

About STEM Peer Coaches

STEM Peer coaches give individualized, ongoing support, and help students take action toward their goals. Peer Coaches help students navigate their thinking in becoming self-directed learners. One-on-one conversations with a STEM undergraduate student will focus on goal setting and developing a clear vision of goals and next steps.

STEM Peer Coaches will have:

  • Planning conversations on how to be successful
  • Reflecting conversations focused on performance
  • Prioritizing conversations to construct plans for the next steps

STEM Peer Coaches will also share time management skills, study skills, and self-advocacy skills with the students they coach. As a result of some conversations, coaches may refer students to campus-wide resources such as tutoring, the writing center, the wellness center, and a variety of other resources as needed.
