Research Security Training
In accordance with the CHIPS and Science Act of 2022, the federal government is strengthening safeguards to protect research from foreign influence, cybersecurity threats, and other risks. As part of this effort, federal sponsors have begun implementing Research Security requirements for all "covered individuals" who contribute substantially to federal research projects.
All proposals submitted after October 10, 2025, will be required to have all PIs, Co-PIs, and Key Personnel complete the CITI Research Security (Combined) Course. Both the covered individual and the University must certify that they have completed research security training within one year of the application.
When Does Training Need to Be Completed? Prior to submitting a proposal.
How Long Does Training Take? Approximately 1 hour.
How Often is Training Required? Annually.
