Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, faculty and staff should be able to navigate the system and utilize it's major tools and features and be sufficiently prepared for either an INSTRUCTOR (faculty) or Teaching Assistant/TA (staff) role in Canvas. Both roles have the same permissions that enables the user to design, build and teach in Canvas.

This course presents what we feel are the basic things you need to know when teaching online. From short videos designed to help you learn how to use Canvas to discussions on how to integrate engaging strategies into your own courses, this open course is the first step for anyone new to the Canvas LMS or to distance learning at UWF. The course should take between 1-2 hours to complete in its entirety. Participants will earn a badge or a certificate of participation.

A facilitated guide to online course development (or redevelopment) from start to finish using backwards design with emphasis on learning objectives, assessments, activities, and course content.

Designing and developing an effective online course is a time-consuming process that involves significant planning and intentional decision-making. People who are new to online learning are often surprised that, as opposed to a straightforward process of “putting a course online,” the new modality challenges educators to transform content, activities and their approach to interacting with students.
This course is designed to walk you through a course development project from start to finish while modeling how to teach online using a combination of seminars, labs, consultations, and web-based instruction. The course is part of the larger Course Design Roadmap and will explore the backward design process beginning with learning objectives, followed by assessments, activities, and content. It also includes topics such as course structure, accessibility, and syllabi.
Participants are able to complete the course content and assignments on their own schedule and can start the course at any time. This course fulfills one of the requirements for the Quality Online Instructor Certificate program. Completion of the DQOC is required before a course can be submitted for any quality review. New participants are added to the course every Monday.

What Participants Need
- An online course to develop or improve.
- 8-10 hours per week of workshop
Webinars are scheduled throughout the semester to help you tackle the toughest teaching challenges. Typically less than an hour, these timely sessions cover a wide variety of topics, from using different eLearning tools to exploring different strategies to engage students online and in the classroom.
At a minimum, participants will need a computer with speakers to listen to the presenters.
