Kindness in the Everyday: Wes and Michelle's #UKunduGood Stories

What would you do if a stranger needed help, and time was running out? In the rush of daily life, acts of kindness are sometimes a challenge, and those who perform them often go unnoticed. The #UKunduGood campaign from the Usha Kundu, MD College of Health seeks to change that. We hope to inspire more goodness in the world by celebrating moments of compassion, big and small. Two inspiring examples from the campaign are the stories of Wes, a commercial pilot, and Michelle, a McDonald's worker, whose selfless actions remind us of the extraordinary power of kindness.

Wes’s Story: Compassion Takes Flight

For Wes, kindness soared to new heights during a layover in Charlotte, North Carolina. Amid the hustle and bustle of the airport, he noticed a distressed couple struggling to make their connecting flight. Despite his own busy schedule, Wes stepped in, carrying their bags and running with them to the gate. They made it with less than a minute to spare.

Reflecting on the moment, Wes shared, “Small acts of kindness can make a difference in everyone’s lives, whether we know the people involved or not. It’s easy to keep your head down and not help, especially in a hectic environment, but we’re all people with needs, and at some point, we all need a helping hand.”

Wes's story is a powerful reminder that even in the most chaotic environments, a small act of kindness can change someone’s day.

Michelle’s Story: Everyday Generosity

In a quieter but equally meaningful act, Michelle, a drive-thru worker at a local McDonald's, chose compassion over efficiency during her busy morning shift. When a customer struggled to find enough change for his breakfast, Michelle stepped in to ensure he got his meal without added stress.

“Most people who come through in the mornings are in a rush, heading to work and managing their responsibilities,” Michelle explained. “But I saw someone in need, and I wanted to help.”

Her thoughtfulness illustrates how simple gestures can make a lasting impact, even in the most routine settings.
