Biography

Dr. Matt Knierim, PhD, MSW, MPA is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Work. Dr. Knierim earned his PhD in Social Work, Master of Public Administration, and Master of Social Work degrees from the University of Alabama, and his undergraduate degree in Psychology from Samford University.

Dr. Knierim’s teaching and research interests focus on macro practice, particularly the political participation of social workers and amplifying the political impact of nonprofit human service organizations. These interests were sparked by his practice experience in the nonprofit sector where he engaged in community-level research, technical assistance, and coalition building around state-level legislative advocacy efforts aimed at expanding housing opportunities for low-income individuals and families.
