Biography
Dr. Matt Knierim, PhD, MSW, MPA, LMSW joined the social work faculty at the rank of Assistant Professor in 2023 after spending the previous five years as an Assistant professor at Troy University. While at Troy, he was instrumental in launching and overseeing the Organizational Leadership and Management track of the MSW program which equipped students for leadership roles in the human services by offering courses on program development, strategic planning, evaluation, and grant writing. Prior to his time at Troy University, Dr. Knierim spent a year teaching at The University of Southern Mississippi.
Dr. Knierim earned his PhD in Social Work, Master of Public Administration, and Master of Social Work degrees from the University of Alabama, and his undergraduate degree in Psychology from Samford University. Dr. Knierim’s teaching and research interests focus on macro practice, particularly the political participation of social workers and amplifying the political impact of nonprofit human service organizations. These interests were sparked by his practice experience in the nonprofit sector where he worked on state-level legislative advocacy efforts aimed at expanding housing opportunities for low-income individuals.
