Laura Downey entered the field of education as a study abroad coordinator in Rome. Watching students explore new cultures sparked a realization that she wanted to make a more direct impact on learning. With this new goal in mind, Laura discovered TeacherReady and enrolled in the program because of its practical and flexible path to teaching certification. 

Through TeacherReady's hands-on strategies for lesson planning, classroom management and student engagement, Laura felt she could build her confidence and prepare herself to thrive in the classroom. She shares that her biggest takeaway from the program was learning that teaching is as much about relationships as it is about content, and that connecting with students makes all the difference.

Now an elementary school teacher at Leptis International School in Malta, Laura works with students to spark curiosity, guide growth and celebrate the “aha” moments. Looking ahead, she hopes to grow into educational leadership, supporting other teachers and shaping initiatives that create the best learning environment for all.
