After serving as a U.S. Army Officer and spending two years stationed in South Korea, TeacherReady program graduate Aaron Knox found a passion for international education. He began teaching overseas on a TEFL certificate, working in Thai public schools and after-school language centers, and quickly realized that progressing as an international school teacher would require a professional teaching license.

As an overseas educator, flexibility was one of the most important factors when choosing a certification program. Knox highlights that TeacherReady stood out because it offered exactly that, with fully online instruction, veteran-friendly pricing and strong reviews from other teachers.

“The pacing, veteran’s pricing, and positive reviews all helped to point me in the same direction, that TeacherReady would be a convenient and quality choice for me to become licensed remotely,” he shared.

Although Knox had general classroom experience, TeacherReady helped strengthen the foundation behind his teaching. He shares how the program allowed him to grow, explaining,

“Working through TeacherReady really helped me to fill in the gaps in my teaching by introducing me to research on classroom management, teaching frameworks, learning standards, and assessments. It felt very much like a step up from ‘beginner teacher’ to ‘qualified teacher.’”

Knox shared that one of his biggest takeaways was learning how important adaptability is in the classroom. Every student learns differently, and TeacherReady provided practical strategies for supporting various students, including second-language learners, high-achieving students, and those who needed extra support.

Since earning his Florida teaching license, he has worked as a high school English teacher and head of English language support, helping students from more than 30 countries improve their English skills and prepare for university. Most recently, he was promoted to head of high school at The American School of Bangkok Green Valley and is now pursuing his M.Ed. in Educational Leadership at UWF.
