Biography
Alonzie Scott III (Former) served as the Director of Mission Support for the Office of Naval Research (ONR) in a Senior Executive Service (SES) civilian role. He was the first African American to hold this position, marking a significant milestone in the history of both the Navy and ONR, and demonstrating his exceptional leadership, competencies, and capabilities. In this role, he was responsible for a wide range of functions, including human resources and capital management, executive secretariat functions, records management, command logistics, corporate strategic communications, and the management of federally funded research and development centers (FFRDC). Additionally, he oversaw financial and contract management, the Chief Information Office, and technology infrastructure, as well as managed a 14-story commercial office building, facility management, security, small business outreach, and performance improvement and data analytics functions across the ONR enterprise.
Scott previously served as Program Manager for the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Philadelphia Division (NSWCPD) Enterprise Talent Management Office, and Senior Executive Advisor to the Technical Director. He also served as a senior technical authority, expert consultant, and advisor to the NSWCPD senior leadership on developing, resourcing, overseeing, implementing, administering, and evaluating all aspects of talent management. His work in the Navy Senior Executive Service earned recognition from the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) as a "Best Practice in Executive Development."
Throughout his career, Mr. Scott has been a beacon of leadership, creating and releasing innovative talent management, quality of life, and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Student Engagement and Outreach programs. His diverse work efforts have earned him numerous awards, special recognitions, and designations during his decades-long civilian career. These include outstanding SES performance ratings annually, Navy Performance, Special Act or Service Awards, Navy Civilian Superior Service Award, Black Engineer of the Year (BEYA) Special Recognition Award for Outstanding Leadership in Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) Talent Management and Senior Executive Office, NAVSEA Meritorious Unit Commendation, OPM Best Practice Recognition for Executive Leadership, NAVSEA Command Excellence Award, Navy Civilian Meritorious Service Award, Naval Air Weapons Station Commander's Award for Leadership (1996), President/Past President, Armed Forces Recreation Society (AFRS), National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), and AFRS Elected 2 Vice President, NRPA and University of West Florida (UWF) Recreation And Sport Services Alumni Award.
Mr. Scott is a distinguished alumnus of the University of West Florida (UWF) and has had the honor of serving on the Board of Trustees under appointments from both Governors Rick Scott and Ron DeSantis. As a trustee, he is deeply committed to the success of students, collaborating closely with the exceptional faculty and staff at the University of West Florida (UWF). Mr. Scott endeavors to facilitate the achievement of three essential outcomes for students: becoming responsible citizens, effective leaders, and caring parents; obtaining gainful employment; and fostering entrepreneurial endeavors. He asserts that these three objectives should be the guiding principles of every trustee's fiduciary responsibilities.
