Jim Thornton

Biography
James (Jim) Thornton, CPA, graduated from UWF in 1974 with a B.A. in Accounting. He worked in Public Accounting and Internal Audit for six years and then transitioned to Risk Management for 32 years. He retired as CFO U.S. Risk Management for a British FTSE 100 firm.
Thornton attributes much of his personal and professional fulfillment to the exceptional education he received at UWF. In particular, he credits Dr. Tom Committe, then Chair of the Accounting Department, for his encouragement and support.
Thornton enjoys traveling, golfing, and woodworking. He has volunteered for decades at Habitat for Humanity, building homes from start to finish. Since retirement, he has been recognized by two U.S. Presidents for his Habitat volunteer hours.
Thornton and his wife live between homes in Atlanta and the North Georgia mountains. His family includes a daughter, son-in-law, and two wonderful grandchildren.
