Scholarships
The Hal Marcus College of Science and Engineering (HMCSE) awards a variety of scholarships for students majoring in the programs within the College. Additionally, many of our departments have scholarships that are awarded by the department. Please contact your home department for details about scholarship opportunities at the department level.
Below is a list of scholarships available from the Hal Marcus College of Science and Engineering Dean's Office. These scholarships are awarded by a scholarship committee that reviews applications and makes the recommendation for receiving the scholarship and the award amount.

Biology | Mertis "Sunny" Brown Scholarship | For students with a major in Biology, or related disciplines involving the study, conservation, and preservation of wild bird life in North America. Awards are primarily for Escambia and Santa Rosa counties (Florida) residents. |
Chemistry | Ascend Performance Materials Scholarship and Research: Chemistry | Funds support scholarships and summer research positions. Scholarships for UWF students with a major in Chemistry. |
Chemistry | Chemistry Alumni Scholarship | Full-time students with a major in Chemistry that meets enrollment requirements. |
Chemistry | Dr. Grace Po-Yuen Chiu Scholarship | Preference will be given to full-time international chemistry students entering their junior or senior year. |
Chemistry | Dr. Larry Manziek Memorial Scholarship | For students that meet enrollment requirements. Preference will be given to Chemistry students who are full-time, entering their junior or senior year, maintaining a minimum GPA of 3.0, and interested in attending graduate school in a STEM field (science, technology, engineering, or mathematics). |

Chemistry | J Gurst Excellence in Chemistry | A combination of academic merit and interest in issues of STEM diversity with following assessment criteria: full-time chemistry students maintaining a 3.25 GPA or higher, have an interest in obtaining a graduate STEM degree, have demonstrated academic competencies in chemistry and/or research productivity, and participation in outreach/mentoring activities relative to the study of chemistry. |
Chemistry | Ralph K. Birdwhistell Chemistry | Students must be full-time and may not otherwise be enrolled without the availability of a grant as determined by the Chemistry faculty. Summer research fellowships will be awarded by the Chemistry faculty to students showing special interest or talent for Chemistry research. |
Computer Science | Computer Science Scholarship | For graduate students in Computer Science that meet enrollment requirements. |
Computer Science | Lancy C. Jen Scholarship for Excellence: Computer Science | Full-time students with a major in Mathematics or Computer Science. Students must maintain a minimum B average in all college-level courses and show accomplishment in discipline-related endeavors. |
Computer Science | Michael Page Douglas Memorial Scholarship for Computer Science | For students who are juniors or above with a major in Computer Science and have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher. |
Computer Science | NDIA Cybersecurity Scholarship | Preference will be given to upper-level students majoring in computer science with a cybersecurity specialization maintaining a minimum GPA of 3.0. |
Computer Science | Nick Johnson Academic Scholarship | Full-time undergraduate students with a major in Computer Science. Students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0. |
Computer Science, Cybersecurity & Information Technology | Argo Cyber Emerging Scholars (ACES) Scholarship | Full-time students enrolled in a B.S. or M.S. in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or Information Technology who are interested in a cybersecurity career in the federal government. Scholarships will award full tuition for up to two years, provide an annual living stipend, and a professional development allowance. ACE Scholars will also receive mentoring and professional development support to help them launch successful careers. In exchange for the scholarship, Scholars agree to work at a Federal Executive Agency after graduation for the number of years of the scholarship. Scholars are also required to complete a summer internship (typically paid), attend the annual CyberCorps Scholarship for Service job fair, and participate in a research project. Application deadline is typically the end of March. |
Earth & Environmental Science | James P. Morgan Scholarship | Full-time student enrolled in the M.S. Environmental Science Program. The student must be enrolled full-time ( 6.0 scheduled hours) in the semester of the award with a minimum Graduate GPA of 3.5. Must be thesis-track with thesis topic along the lines of research conducted by James P. Morgan. |
Engineering | Bear Family Foundation Engineering Program | Financial support to UWF Engineering Department. Funds will provide support to build, grow, maintain and enhance the Mechanical Engineering Program at UWF. |
Engineering | Electrical Engineering Alumni Scholarship | Full or part-time students in Electrical and Computer Engineering (including pre-electrical/computer engineering) with a cumulative GPA of 3.0. |
Engineering | Florida Engineering Society Scholarship | For students that meet enrollment requirements. Preference will be given to upper-level students with a minimum GPA of 3.0 who is a current member of the student chapter of the Florida Engineering Society. |
Engineering | Future Women Engineers Scholarship | For students with a major in Engineering. Students must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0, be a full-time student in a degree program, and be female. |
Engineering | Islamic Center of Northwest Florida Engineering Scholarship | For need-based students with a major in Engineering that meet enrollment requirements. Students must have a minimum GPA of 3.0. |
Engineering | IT Gulf Coast Scholarship | For need-based students with preference given to upper-level students who major in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, and Medical Informatics. Students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0. |
Engineering | NDIA Science and Engineering Scholarship | For students that meet enrollment requirements. Preference will be given to Northwest Florida State College transfer students who major in one of the College of Science and Engineering disciplines and maintains a minimum GPA of 3.0. |
Engineering | Paul and Maggie Hsu Endowed Engineering Scholarship | Full or part-time students that maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0. Preference will be given to employees and family members of MTI, Total Parts, and Actigraph. (Company representatives should submit names for consideration to the selection committee). If no submissions, consideration may be given to any UWF student meeting criteria. |
Engineering | Society of American Military Engineers, Pensacola Post School | The Society of American Military Engineers Scholarship is for need-based students from Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties. Students must be majoring in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology or pre-engineering programs, members of the UWF Society of American Military Engineers, and veterans or active duty military personnel. |
Engineering | Stan and Mary Stephenson Scholarship | Full-time students in Electrical Engineering degree program that maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0. Preference will be given to Electrical Engineering students: with dependents, who indicate a desire to teach engineering, and/or qualify as First Generation college students. |
HMCSE | Cox Communication Scholarship | For students that meet enrollment requirements. Preference will be given to a graduate student majoring in one of the School of Science and Engineering disciplines and maintaining a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Additional consideration will be given to students whose area of focus is in the holodeck and complex data visualization. |
HMCSE | HMCSE Endowment Scholarship | For merit and/or need-based undergraduates, that will provide funds to attract and maintain top students. Scholarships will reward upper-level students who are achieving academic excellence and provide the opportunity to participate in project-based learning activities in the School of Science and Engineering. |
HMCSE | National Defense Industrial Association, Gulf Coast Chapter | Preference is given to students who reside in the greater Eglin community, pursuing an undergraduate engineering and/or other technical fields of study in the College of Science and Engineering, maintaining a minimum GPA of 2.5. Scholarships will be renewable commensurate with University policies. |
HMCSE | Pensacola Women's Alliance (PWA) | Full or part-time female student seeking a degree in a professional STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) or business field. Must be a resident of the Escambia/Santa Rosa area, have earned a minimum of 60 credit hours, and maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA. |
HMCSE | Pensacola Women's Alliance (PWA) | For students seeking a degree in a major in the School of Science and Engineering that meet enrollment requirements. |
Mathematics | Lancy C. Jen Scholarship for Excellence: Mathematics | Scholarships for UWF enrolled full-time students with a major in Mathematics or Computer Science. Students must maintain a minimum B average in all college-level courses and show accomplishment in discipline-related endeavors. |
Physics | Palmer Lowell Edwards Memorial Scholarship | Scholarships for UWF students with a major or intending to major in Physics. |
STEM | HoshizakiIceMaker.com | Open to all undergraduate students enrolled within STEM careers. ($1000 award split between two semesters to ONE winning applicant.) Apply for this scholarship via the HoshizakiIceMaker.com website. |
UWF-Teach | UWF-Teach Noyce Scholars Program | UWF-Teach majors have the opportunity to become Robert Noyce Scholars and receive funding for the cost of attending UWF during their junior and senior years. Students must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.75 and must have completed EDG2041 with a minimum grade of C-. |
