Student Organizations
The Department of Cybersecurity and Information Technology has many diverse opportunities for participation in extracurricular activities and encourages the development of student interest groups, activities and organizations.
Cyber Club
The UWF Cyber Club is a student-lead organization that meets regularly to learn about recent cybersecurity topics and issue. Members participate in cybersecurity-related activities including regional cyber competitions and community service events.
Recent Accomplishments:
- Southeast Collegiate Penetration Testing Competition - 2nd place (October 2020)
- Southeast Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition – 2nd place in Southeast Regionals (March 2020)
- ITEN Wired Cyber Challenge – 1st place (October 2019)
- ITEN Wired Cyber Challenge – 1st place (October 2018)
- Security Matters ICS Competition – 1st Place (April 2018)
- AFCEA’s Cyberthon – 1st & 2nd place (March 2018)
- ITEN Wired Cyber Defense and Incident Response – 1st place (October 2017)

Women in CyberSecurity
Women in CyberSecurity (WiCyS) is the premier organization with international reach dedicated to bringing together women in cybersecurity from academia, research and industry to share knowledge, experience, networking, and mentoring. The mission of the WiCyS Student Chapter at UWF is to build a community within UWF that promotes women’s education, participation, and leadership in the field of cybersecurity.
The WiCyS Student Chapter’s main goals are:
1. To decrease the gender disparity in cybersecurity.
2. To provide education, mentorship, and networking support to students through the WiCyS community.
3. To promote and recruit women in the cybersecurity workforce through the University of West Florida.
Membership is open to all interested students.
