First Year Advising assists first year students with their initial course registration and setting a strong foundation for academic success at UWF.
Newly Admitted First-Year Students
All first year students are required to register and attend New Student Orientation hosted by UWF Admissions. After you register for orientation, your first year advisor will create a preliminary course schedule for your first semester.
You are considered a freshman transfer student if you have 12-29 credit hours that you earned after high school graduation. Freshman transfer students, as well as students who have earned 30+ credits with an undeclared major will be advised by First Year Advising.
Your first year advisor is here to help you register for your first semester, guide you through the degree and curriculum requirements for your major, and show you how to optimize your course sequencing before meeting your academic advisor.

Tip1: Register for Orientation
New first-year students must attend orientation prior to being eligible for registration. For additional orientation information or to sign up, please visit the UWF orientation website.
Tip 2: Activate your MYUWF Account
Once you register for orientation, activate and upgrade your MyUWF account. Communication from your first year advisor will be sent to your UWF email, so check it regularly.
Tip 3: Prepare for your First Advising Appointment
Be on time for your appointment, check your preliminary schedule and prepare a list of questions to ask your advisor. Visit Freshman Advising and Registration or Freshman Transfer Students web pages for further guidance on process and preparation.
