The Art Gallery
The Art Gallery (TAG) at UWF features an annual series of revolving exhibitions that highlight both student work as well as regional, national, and international artists. Exhibitions promote contemporary critical thinking and cultural inspiration for students and the greater Gulf Coast community.
About The Art Gallery at UWF
The Art Gallery (TAG) at the University of West Florida seeks to challenge, stimulate, and engage students and the greater public through direct interaction with works of contemporary and modern art. TAG's series of revolving exhibitions highlights both student work as well as innovative regional, national, and international artists. These exhibitions aim to foster critical thinking and cultural inspiration, benefiting both UWF students and the broader Gulf Coast community.
Every year, TAG features several solo and group exhibitions including the annual TAGGED Student Art and Design Competition, a biennial Art Faculty Exhibition, and several graduating BFA Thesis Exhibitions. The Gallery functions as a not-for-profit pedagogical space with a main focus of creating a forum for community dialogue centered around experimental and inventive artworks.
TAG is centrally located across from Mainstage Theatre and Rolfs Music Hall in the Center for Fine and Performing Arts. Its high ceilings and 1,600 square feet offer a creative setting for artists to display work. The Gallery accepts proposals from emerging and established contemporary artists year around.

A History of Photography: Storytellers, Tricksters, and Fortune Tellers

A History of Photography: Storytellers, Tricksters, and Fortune Tellers
"A History of Photography: Storytellers, Tricksters, and Fortune Tellers" is the second installment from The Art Gallery's Evolve exhibition series. This series was designed to provide a comprehensive pedagogical space for Department of Art & Design students and their instructors to collaboratively define and manage a themed exhibition. This year’s theme highlights a history of photography as interpreted by guest curator and UWF Professor Jim Jipson.
Serving as an extension of the classroom, TAG will be transformed into an educational space where art and history collide. High-impact practices rooted in research and exhibition design encouraged students to take ownership of the process. Collaborators include Jipson's classes, alongside TAG Team and TAG X interns under the mentorship of UWF Art and Design Instructor John Dougherty, UWF Historic Trust Exhibition Designer Richard Rodriguez, and The Art Gallery at UWF Director Stasha Willis.
"A History of Photography: Storytellers, Tricksters, and Fortune Tellers” will run Jan. 8 - Feb. 5 with a closing reception on Feb. 5 from 5 to 7 p.m. Visitors are encouraged to view the works on display during the gallery's regular hours.
