Welcome to the Department of Art & Design

Welcome to the Department of Art & Design at the University of West Florida. For more than fifty years, we have fostered independent and critical thinking in our students through the production and study of the visual arts.

The department offers two Baccalaureate programs: a Bachelor Degree (B.A.) in Art Studio which allows students to concentrate in painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, ceramics, and Art History; and a Bachelor of Fine Art (B.F.A.) in Graphic Design, Digital Art, and Studio Art (drawing, painting, sculpture ceramics, photography). Our B.A. is streamlined to accommodate double majoring and offer an Art minor in either Studio Art or Art History.

All of these concentrations provide students with the pragmatic and creative skill-set necessary to succeed as studio artists, designers, photographers, contemporary craftsmen, art historians, critics, and graphic artists. Our Minor in Art instills creativity and critical thinking skills which will augment any other discipline, giving our students the ability to set themselves apart in today’s competitive work force.

We have a faculty of international standing and over 200 majors involved in an enthusiastic and supportive artistic culture. In order to prepare students for life after graduation, we provide opportunities for students to participate in our TAG design team; the UWF Art Gallery; The Pensacola Museum of Art; local events such as the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) public art initiative; and Kappa Pi, the Art Honor Society, while the degree concentrations in Graphic and Digital Arts teach students practical skills in the applied arts.

Whether your interests are fine arts, studio arts, or applied arts, UWF has you covered.
